Monthly Newsletter, WBC - July

Port Macquarie City Women's Bowling Club - Newsletter July 2008

Many thanks to Robyn Biddle, Publicity, for providing this newsletter for posting to the Bowls News website.

On Monday 28th we held our 54th A.G.M. the results are at the top of this news letter (see previous post). We congratulate all members that were successful on being voted in. I would like to wish President Mary a good year and I am sure that her committee will work well along side her.

We have played our Club Pairs and congratulations go to Jennifer Munson and Carmel Daniels on their win, also Rosemary Roach and Margaret Doyle on runners up. It was a very close game with some beautiful bowls played with Jennifer winning by one shot.

The Out of the Hat Triples was washed out, so we may not get to play this year.

Four of our ladies went to Warilla to play in the Indoor Singles and had some great games and I think a lot of fun.

Congratulations to Beth Schubert, Lois Bishell and Kath Drew on winning the District Triples, they went to Kempsey R.S.L for the group play off’s and won, now they are off to Sydney to play for State Finals.

Lyn Thompson has won the group play offs for the District Singles and will now go to Sydney for the State Play off’s.

We had three members selected to the District Committee, Pamela Ditchfield President, Kath Drew Vice President and Shirley Devine on Match. Congratulations to all ladies.

The Handicap Triples were played, the winner were –
Am. Winners: M. Edwards, B. Hicks and C. White
Pm. Winners: J. Surrey, B. O’Brien and K. Ochs
Second Winners: T. Henson, B. Balls and B. Schubert
First Winners: B. Burge, D. Gudgeon and J. Scholz
Congratulations to all winners.

Our girls won the play offs for the James Wall Shield, Barbara Barrett, Judy Brady, Fay Schollum and Carol White. We wish them all the best when they go to the State Finals.

With all our club ladies winning this year, we have a great future in the club and we encourage all our new ladies to make sure they enter the Minor and Major events.

Congratulations to Reg Lucas on his election to President of the Men’s Club again this year and we wish him and his committee all the best.
We wish Rod Wilson and Marg all the very best on Rod’s Retirement and we are sure they will get to see a lot of Australia. Thank you for everything Rod.
We welcome Larry Collins to our club and we look forward to working with him.

Our non-bowling members are invited to meet on the 2nd Tuesday in the month at the club from 10am. The first Tuesday is 12th August, 2008. We look forward to seeing old and new friends. Do come along.

Our thoughts are with Betty Hodgson and husband Ray, we were sorry to hear of his illness and that he may not be able to come back to Australia, as doctors say he can no longer travel.

As this will be my last news letter, as I have finished my three years as Publicity Officer, I would like to thank all our members for the news and jokes they have given me over the past three years. I wish the new Publicity Officer the very best.

To any of our members that are not in the best of health at present we wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back at the Club soon.

Now for a little fun:

The Aboriginal Lament

When I am born I am black
When I grow up I am black
When I go into the sun I am black
When I am scared I am black
When I die I am black
But you white fella…..
When you are born you are pink
When you grow up you are white
When you go out in the sun you are red
When you are scared you are yellow
When you are sick you are green
When you die you are purple
And you say we are coloured.
