Port City's Lynne Thompson defeated Judith Cooke, Goulburn Railway, in the first round 31 - 27.

Australian Open - Qualification now in NSW

Bowls Australian has made a major improvement in the format for the Australian Open to be held on the 15th - 21st February 2009.

Local players now have the opportunity to qualify at a venue in our Zone rather than spending the time and money to travel to Victoria for the qualification rounds.

Click here for details of the NSW venues including West Coffs in Zone 14. Proposed dates for Coffs Harbour are the 20 - 28th November 2008.

With the quality of players from Zone 14 that we have seen in the 2008 State Championships as well as previous year's winners I would hope that some of our local players, both men & ladies, take this opportunity to compete in the rounds at Coffs.

Full details including an entry form are available on the Bowls Australia web site. Please have a look at the general article with links on their site if you have interest - click here

Well done to the two neighbours!

Kerry Bolsover & Pat Morrison

The final of the Women's Minor Pairs was played yesterday with Kerry Bolsover & Pat Morrison taking out the title 23 -12 against Adriana Cutler & Brenda Burge. The scoreline was not indicative of the high standard of bowls played by both sides.

Kerry & Pat live next door to each other - they’ll be able to share the trophy over the fence.

Congratulations to both teams for reaching the finals.

Cory Daley - State Singles Champion

Cory Daley (left) & Runner Up Aron Sherriff

The following is a release from the RNSWBA regarding the great win by Cory.

"29 year old Cory Daley from Park Beach BC stunned the NSW Bowls world with a 31-30 win over Aron Sherriff in the 2008 Cabramatta NSW State Singles final.
Little known outside the Coffs Harbour area before the win Daley has now announced that he is a bowler to be reckoned with, by grabbing the State’s most coveted championship.
Daley started his campaign with a 31-17 win over Ryde X Phoenix bowler Matt Dedini, and then fought back from an early deficit to beat 1998 Runner Up Stephen Ashdown (Harbord). Daley then overcame Adam Lee (Nyngan) 31-25 in the semi final.
Sherriff began slowly in his first match before storming home to beat Sean Sommerville (Penrith) 31-19 before accounting for Mark Menzies (Armidale City) 31-20 in the quarter final.
Sherriff then accounted for Brody Pitham (East Cessnock), who had taken beaten Sherriff in the Pairs just two days before, Sherriff taking the singles honours 31-22"

Qld. Bowler Magazine now online

Queensland Bowler goes hi-tech (Monday 29th September, 2008)

The following is a posting from Bowls Australia and Bowls Queensland regarding a great new innovation with their bowls magazine now online, page by page, for reading over the internet. Click on the link below and have a look - well done to Bowls Queensland!

"One of the nation's leading bowls publications is now available online (read more)...

One of Australia's leading bowls magazines, the Queensland Bowler, recently entered a new era by launching its first online edition.

Exactly 31-years after the first RQBA Bowler rolled off the press, Queensland’s state magazine is now available at the touch of a button.

Readers can flip through the current issue, catching up on all the latest news and views from the world of lawn bowls.

Or, if they’ve missed something in a previous edition, easy access to the Bowler archive allows them to quickly track down the article they’re after.

Bowls Queensland chairman Brian Stewart is a big fan of the new online Bowler.

"I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread," an enthusiastic Stewart said.

"It’s another very important tool in our continuing endeavours to move with the times and bring bowls to the wider community.

"It’s very handy for bowlers, many of whom have access to the Internet these days.

"They can read the magazine, print out pages, or email articles of interest to their friends anywhere in the world.

"Together with our new website I think it is a major leap forward for the sport in Queensland."
There is no special program or fancy hardware needed to read the online edition.
All you require is a computer with internet access and a thirst for some of Australia’s best bowls coverage and you’re ready to go.

And for all those bowlers who like to sit at the bar and flip through their copy of the Queensland Bowler each month....never fear.

Bowls Queensland will continue to publish its print edition, which will be distributed free of charge, as always, to clubs throughout the state.

Click here to see the inaugural online edition of the Queensland Bowler. "
